If you're able to post your first comment, you have already mastered the first hurdle of this class ;-)
Our first assignment is easy: we are going to introduce ourselves. Click on "comment" in the lower right hand corner, and publish a short introduction to yourself, talking about your major, your hobbies, your career, etc. etc.... If you have a myspace site or website, you can include a URL so people can look you up and get to know you. If you have a photo of yourself, you are welcome to attach it to your profile.

Hello all, my name is Christina Linda Voss, and I've been teaching at SIU since Fall 2007. I taught ENGL101, 102, 290, 300, and this semester also 485a for education majors. I have a Ph.D. in English from my German alma mater, and am presently working on a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction. I studied in Germany, Russia, France, and previously in Carbondale (in 1997). My first M.A. is in translation (specialty: technology), and my second is the Master of Arts in Teaching from SIU. I am a certified Illinois high school teacher for German, French, and English -- but I am not allowed to teach at public schools, since I am not a citizen!! My goal is to get a greencard and ultimately become an American ;-) My hobbies are playing the piano, hiking in the Scottish highlands, and breeding leopard geckos. I really like hiking and climbing, anything outdoors is usually fun. I also like playing music and reading. Right now, I work at American Eagle in the mall as a sales associate. I also work at Campus Comics, a comic book store on Main Street.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Stile Smith and I am an English Education major from Centralia, IL. I'm in my second year here at SIU, and it's been pretty cool so far. After graduating from SIU, I want to go on to be a high school English teacher and a basketball coach. After getting my master's degree while I'm teaching high school English, I want to be a high school athletic director. I love sports, especially basketball. I am currently the SIU men's basketball beat reporter for the Daily Egyptian.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jamie Franklin and I am a sophomore this year. I lived in a small town of under 3,000 and my graduating class was only thirty-nine. I played volleyball, softball, and I cheered in high school. My major is political science and my minor is criminal justice. I plan to go to law school after I complete my undergrad. I want to be a judge in the long run. I enjoy watching movies, tanning, exercising, and texting.

I am from Richton Park ,IL. What I plan to do with my major is work in the Radio Industry. I also am a partime Urban model who does some promo work. I am Black/Blackfoot Indian/Irish/German ethnicities. I plan on graduating in 2011 if not 2011 then I will be graduating in 2012.

My name is Maegan Carey. I just transferred to SIU from Kaskaskia Community College. I attended SIUe my first semester of college in hopes of becoming a dentist. I decided it was not for me and have changed my mind, what feels like, 100 times. I have finally decided to major in Secondary English Education and I'm very excited about it.

ReplyDeleteSalutations from Mike Springston. I worked over 30 years as a journalist, taking a voluntary buyout from McClatchy in July 2008. I took advantage of my media rehab to work for the Obama campaign, spend 3 weeks on a western road trip and complete the 2nd and 3rd drafts (only 7 to go) on "The Last Flight of the Lost Party" (work in progress at www.egyptian.net/~leftypen). I also did a little substitute teaching, which prompted me to return to school. I am currently enrolled in the MAT program and plan to teach high school English.
ReplyDeleteI am the Randolph County recycling coordinator, secretary of the Sparta Lions Club and was a 2009 inductee into the SIU Journalism Hall of Fame. I do an occasional column for the DE.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Abby Morgan. I'm an English Education major, and I will graduate (hopefully) in Spring 2011. I should have graduated this year, but since my brief experience at SIU-E turned out to be a bust, I had to sit out a semester and wait to re-enroll. I hope to teach high school English when I finally graduate.
I'm the computer nerd in my family, and I'm the type of person who likes to take things apart and see how they work. I really enjoy anything that has to do with technology.
I'm also a big family person, and I'm really attached to them, which is why I commute an hour and twenty minutes from home on MWF. I have six pets: two cats, Ziah and Minerva; three dogs, Sadie, Chico, and Oliver; and a betta fish named Shakespeare. I love my animals dearly and wouldn't trade them for the world.
Hello, my name is Zachary Solomon. It's my second year as a Senior double majoring in Cinema and Secondary English Education. I live in a house in Carbondale with five other roomates, but I'm from St. Louis (and yes that makes me a Cardinals fan). I enjoy listening to music (mainly rock and blues stuff), playing guitar, and road trips amongst things.
ReplyDeletei'm nick. i'm a senior double-majoring in english and psychology with a minor in speech comm...but school's far from the most important thing going on in my life so enough about that. the biggest thing i'm involved in is my church - vine community church. i freakin love it and it's the main reason i call carbondale home. other than that i'm an ra at thompson point (which is terribly time consuming), and i'm into guitar, basketball and rock climbing.

I transferred to SIUC in the spring last year from Columbia College Chicago where I was a photography major. I'm from a small town 50 miles south of Chicago called Manteno. I enjoy being outside and I spend all my money on going to concerts and traveling.

I belive children that live in these conditions need lots of support and guidance, and I would like to be a part of that support system.
